^^^- ^- (^) '^^^ I'ates of basic compensation of officers and members to whom the amendments made by the first section of this Act apply shall be adjusted as follows: (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this section, each officer and member receiving basic compensation immediately prior to the first day of the first pay period which begins on or after October 1, 1967, at one of the scheduled service or longevity rates of a salary class or subclass of a salary class in the salary schedule in section 101 of the District of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary ^^^ ^^ 1^^^ (hereafter in this section referred to as the "salary schedule") shall receive a rate of basic compensation at the corresponding rate in effect on such day.
