Be it enacted by the SerMte ai%d House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That section 636 te^'^r^r^^i^*"^^*^^' of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end m^nu"^'^^ assignthereof the following new subsection: 82 Stat. i i u. "(e) I n an emergency and upon the concurrence of the chief judges of the districts involved, a United States magistrate may be temporarily assigned to perform any of the duties specified in subsection (a) or (b) of this section in a judicial district other than the judicial district for which he has been appointed. No magistrate shall perform any of such duties in a district to which he has been temporarily assigned until an order has been issued by the chief judge of such district specifying (1) the emergency by reason of which he has been transferred, (2) the duration of his assignment, and (3) the duties which he is authorized to perform. A magistrate so assigned shall not be entitled to additional compensation but shall be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the perfonnance of his duties in accordance with section 635." SEC. 2. The section heading of section 636 of title 28, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: "§ 636. Jurisdiction, powers, and temporary assignment/' SEC. 3. The item relating to section 636 in the section analysis of chapter 43 of title 28, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: "636. Jurisdiction, powers, and temporary assignment.". IbECTiox 1. Section i>(n) of the i^ederal \\ ater Pollution ( ontrol Act, extension. Act, as amended (33 U.S.C. 1151 et seq.), is further amended by insert- so Stat. 1247; ing after the first sentence thereof the following: "There is authorized ii3;*85 sVat! 379. to be appropriated not to exceed $9,000,000 for the period commencing 33 USC 1155. November 1, 1971, and ending June 30, 1972, for the purpose of salaries and related expenses incurred during that period under this section, in addition to funds made available under Public Law 92-50 and Public Law 92-137. There is authorized to be appropriated not to 3 / / ^*^'- ^^'^' exceed $30,000,000 for the period commencing November 1, 1971, and ending April 30, 1972, for otherwise carrying out this section and such amount shall be in addition to any other funds authorized for this section.". SEC. 2. Section 7(a) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (33 U.S.C. 1157(a)) is amended by striking out "and for the fourmonth period ending October 31, 1971. $4,000,000. and inserting in lieu thereof "and for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1972, $15,000,000.".
