And beit further enacted,_That the sum of eight hundred ,Cl¤*hi¤g in thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby, appropriated for clothing fx; fm v°1`m` in kind to volunteers for the fiscal year ending the thirtieth of June, eighteen hundred and forty-nine, agreeably to the act entitled "An Act to provide clothing for volunteers in the service of the United States," approved the twenty-sixth of January, eighteen hundred and 1848, <=h·6· forty-eight; and that so much of said sum of eight hundred thousand dollars as the President shall direct, is hereby authorized to be applied to the purchase of said clothing during the current fiscal year. XXIV.—An Act to remit the Duties on Books, Maps, and Charts imported Mardi 29, 18%-5. for the Use of the Library of Congress. 1** " Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary Duties fm of the Treasury be, and he hereby is, directed to remit all duties upon Mgt? gfghélff such books, maps, and charts as have been during the present year, or bihry or Congress hereafter may be, imported into the United States by authority of the ”m*“*’d· Joint Library Committee of Congress, for the use of the library of Pr<>viS¤- Congress: Provided, That ii, in any case, a contract shall have been made with pny bookseller, importer, or other person, for books, maps, or charts, in which contract the bookseller, importer, or other person aforesaid, shall have paid the duty or included the duty in said contract, in such case the duty shall not be remitted. Millionspf Dollars. ····-————— Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Uizited States <y" America in Congress assembled, That the President Lvcm of of the United States be, and he is hereby, authorized, at any time with- §1£,(}$°°° °“` in one year from the passage of this act, to borrow, on the credit of the ` United States, a sum not exceeding sixteen millions of dollars, or so much thereof as, in his opinion, the exigencies of the government may require, at a rate of interest not exceeding six per centum per annum, I¤¤=¤’¢¤*~ payable quarterly or semi-annually, which loan shall be made reimbur- Whw l>¤r¤l·l¤ sable at any time after twenty years from the nrst day of July next after the passage of this act ; and said money, so borrowed, shall, on being first duly appropriated therefor, be applied, in addition to the money now in the treasury, or which may be received therein from other sources, to defray any of the public expenses which have been heretofore, or may be hereafter, authorized by law, and the stock issued upon such ab?‘°°k*’“°‘f°" loan shall be transferable on the books of the treasury. e` Smo. 2.
