ALTERATIONS OF EXISTING QUARTERS

SEC. 502. The Secretary of Defense, or his designee, is authorized to accomplish alterations, additions, expansions, or extensions, not otherwise authorized by law, to existing public quarters at a cost not to exceed— (1) for the Department of the Army, $12,000,000 for energy conservation projects; (2) for the Department of the Navy, $7,000,000 for energy conservation projects; and (3) for the Department of the Air Force, $6,890,000 for energy conservation projects. SEC. 503. (a) Section 515 of Public Law 84^161 (69 Stat. 324, 352), as amended, is further amended by revising the third sentence to read as follows: "Expenditures for the rental of such housing facilities, including the cost of utilities and maintenance and operation, may not exceed: For the United States (other than Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam) and Puerto Rico, an average of $265 per month for each military department or the amount of $450 per month for any unit; and for Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam, an average of $335 per month for each military department, or the amount of $450 per month for any one unit.". (b) Section 507(b) of Public Law 93-166 (87 Stat. 661, 676) is amended by striking out "$380" and "$670" in the first sentence and inserting in lieu thereof "$405" and $700", respectively.

SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS

SEC. 504. Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law: (1) The Secretary of the Navy is authorized to settle claims regarding construction of public quarters at the Naval Station, Charleston, South Carolina, in the amount of $1,675,000. (2) The Secretary of the Air Force is authorized to settle claims regarding construction of mobile home facilities at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, in the amount of $88,000, plus interest at 8% per centum from April 23, 1975, the date of settlement. HOUSING, APPROPRIATIONS LIMITATIONS

SEC. 505. There is authorized to be appropriated for use by the Secretary of Defense or, his designee, for military family housing as authorized by law for the following purposes: (1) For construction or acquisition of sole interest in family housing, including demolition, authorized improvements to public quarters, minor construction, relocation of family housing, rental guarantee payments, and planning, an amount not to exceed $80,576,000. (2) For support of military family housing, including operating expenses, leasing, maintenance of real property, payments of principal and interest on mortgage debts incurred, payment to the Commodity Credit Corporation, and mortgage insurance premi-
