Appropriation

Act, 1977. SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For expenses necessary for the administration of the Department of Justice, including hire of passenger motor vehicles; not to exceed $2,500 for official reception and representation expenses; and miscellaneous and emergency expenses authorized or approved by the Attorney General o r the Assistant A t to r n e y General for Administration; $20,400,000. I n addition to funds provided under this Act, unobligated balances from the amount appropriated for the W a t e r g a t e Special Prosecution Force i n 1976 shall remain available until September 30, 1977. ACTIVITIES

SALARIES AND EXPENSES, GENERAL LEGAL ACTIVITIES

For expenses necessary for the legal activities of the Department of Justice, not otherwise provided for, including miscellaneous and emergency expenses authorized or approved by the Attorney General or the Assistant Attorney General for Administration; not to exceed $30,000 for expenses of collecting evidence, to be expended under the direction of the Attorney General and accounted for solel,y on h i s certificate; and advances of public moneys pursuant to law (31 U.S.C. 529); $64,090,000: Provided, That not to exceed $105,000 may be transferred to this appropriation from the "Alien Property F u n d, W o r l d W a r II ", for the general administrative expenses of alien property activities, including rent of private or Government-owned space in the District of Columbia. SALARIES AND EXPENSES, ANTITRUST DIVISION

For expenses necessary for the enforcement of antitrust, consumer protection and kindred laws, $24,000,000: Provided, ^ ' h a t none of this appropriation shall be expended for the establishment and maintenance of permanent regional offices of the A n t i t r u s t Division. SALARIES AND EXPENSES, UNITED STATES ATTORNEYS AND MARSHALS

For necessary expenses of the oiRces of the United States attorneys and marshals, including purchase of firearms and ammunition, $160,890,000. FEES AND EXPENSES OF WITNESSES

For expenses, mileage, and p e r diems of witnesses and for p e r diems in lieu of subsistence, as authorized by law, for payment of compensation and expenses of Commissioners appointed in condemnation cases under Eule 71A (h) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, 28 USC app. and for such compensation and expenses of expert witnesses pursuant to section 524 of title 28, United States Code, and sections 4244-48 of title 18, United States Code, including advances; $19,177,000: Provided, That no part of the sum herein a p p r o p r i a t e d shall be used to p a y any witness more than one attendance fee for any one calendar d a y: Provided further, That n o part of the sum herein appropriated shall be used for the payment of the compensation of land commissioners at a daily rate in excess of the equivalent daily rate of compensation paid a g r a d e 18 on the General Schedule. 5 USC 5332 note.
