To authorize and direct the Secretary of the Interior to acquire certain lands for the benefit of the Mille Lacs Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Indians. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress ossembled, SECTION 1. (a) The Secretary of the Interior is authorized, if he finds legal title to such lands to be in private ownership, to acquire by purchase the following described lands: Government lot 4, section 28, township 43 north, range 27 west, fourth principal meridian, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. (b) Lands acquired by the Secretary pursuant to subsection (a) shall be held by the United States in trust for, and for the benefit and use of, the Mille Lacs Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Indians. SEC. 2. There is authorized to be appropriated such sum as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this Act. The purchase price of said lands shall be an amount equal to their fair market value. Approved November 2, 1978.
