Public Law 97-173 97th Congress Joint Resolution To authorize and request the President to issue a proclamation designating April 25 through May 2, 1982, as "Jewish Heritage Week".

Whereas the Congress recognizes that an understanding of the herit^e of all American ethnic groups contributes to tifie unity of our country; and Whereas intergroup understanding can be further fostered through an appreciation of the culture, history, and traditions of the Jewish community and the contributions of Jews to our country and society and Whereas the months of April and May contain events of m^'or significance in the Jewish calendar—Passover, the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Israeli Independence Day, Solidarity Sunday for Soviet Jewry, and Jerusalem Day: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled.
