There was a preface? --69.67.229.117 05:36, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Character encoding[edit]

Why doesn't this page use Unicode? That would make the Greek passages readable. Wouldn't it also make it more consistent with the rest of the Mediawiki sites?

(Strangely, this page displays properly in Internet Explorer 9, but not in Firefox 9, 10 or 11. Perhaps that is because I have the "Symbol Regular" font, where the Greek alphabet appears instead of the Latin alphabet in ASCII codes 32--95.)

The words in Greek characters should be re-encoded in Unicode. David Haslam (talk) 19:23, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Verse numbering in the preface was not in the original source text[edit]

The editor's explanation states "verse numbers by A.V.Bible Tracts & Books." Why has this alteration to the text been permitted ? David Haslam (talk) 19:29, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh boy, it's much worse than that. In the text here from 2 May 2011‎ and before, there is
16 We omit to cite to the same effect S.Cyril B. of Jerusalem, in his 4 Cataches.
whereas, now that we have it, the source clearly has
We omit to cite to the same effect St. Cyrill Bishop of Jerusalem in his 4. Catech.
'catachism' and the like were old (erroneous?) spellings of 'catechism'. And that 'cataches' version is all over the web.
The insertions for sidenotes are weird.
  • [Tertul. de carne Christi.] when source has "Tertul. De carn. Christ." expanded abbreviations?
  • [Justin. προτρεπτ. προς ελλην. οιον τε.] when source has "Οῖον τε, Justin. προτρεπτ. πρὸς Ἓλλην." reordered words?
The text we had was quite apparently much derived / corrected / reinterpreted / yoiks! Shenme (talk) 06:43, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
