Talk:Mine — by the Right of the White Election!
I find this poem exciting, exhilarating, and almost incomprehensible. What does it refer to? Her soul? Her automomy? Her fury? Is that "scarlett prison" erotic? And is the "white" for that matter? Is it virginity? Bedsheets?
This poem waited about 30 years to be published. What did people make of it in 1890? It must have defied everything poetry thought it was. If you showed me this poem and told me it was written by one of the beatniks, I think I would have believed you.
