This is a literal translation of "tanah tumpahnya darahku", It fails to capture the real intent of the original phrase. In Malay, the phrases "tanah keringatku mengalir" and "tanah tumpahnya darahku" often go together. "Tanah keringatku mengalir" literally translates to "the land on which my sweat flows". It means the place where I work - toiling in the fields (in olden days) - to earn a living. In the same manner, "tanah tumpahnya darahku" means the place where I am willing to spill my blood in defending it.

I'm not proposing to change the original translation. I just want to clarify to non-malay speakers who may find it odd to have the phrase "the land of which my blood is split" on a national anthem. Berdaulat (talk) 16:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
