Translation into English
In this context, would it be OK to translate "focare" as "to light the fuse"? -- Jmabel 20:30, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Lacking anyone else's comment, I am translating that way. -- Jmabel 00:10, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- "Focare" is plural of "focar", it usually meaning "focus point", but it may also mean "furnace" or "hot bed" (this is the meaning here: "a place or environment favoring rapid growth or spread, esp. of something disliked or unwanted:") Bogdan 06:44, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Observations (from a native Romanian): "controlul de fond al muncii de securitate" does not refer to funds. As such, it means "fundamental (essential) control of the activities of the Securitate".
"vizând ce?" is best ommited in the English translation, or it should be followed by "sic". It is a sort of rethorical question that is nonsensical. "Până în 22 nu a fost nici o poveşte de terorişti, decât începând cu 22 decembrie seara." I think it refers to there being no terrorists at all (and not just to the absence of mention of terrorists). "nici o poveste de terorişti" ("poveste", not "poveşte", of course): was this the ambiguity you made reference to? "nici poveste" would simply mean "none to speak of"; the addition of the indefinite article is confusing, indeed, but I think it reflects antiquated speech. There might be some other such minor problems with the text (I just had a quick look through it), but I have to congratulate the one responsible for the translation. Dan
