Longfellow's poem was an extrordinary in its abillity to capture the emotional footprint a close death can cause. It was dark romanticism at its finest. A man lost his wife as her dress caught fire and she burned alive. While looking through a book he saw a picture of a mountain covered in snow that never melted. The snow ressembled the shape of a cross, and the man could only think of his lost wife and started writting a poem. The poem shows a romanticized tale of natures ruthless manhunt. He is truly able to show real emotions in writting.
