Who translated?[edit]

This is labelled as an 1844 work, but there was no English translation in 1844. Who wrote this translation? It looks to me very much like the translation by Steven Byington, down to the footnotes. Is this true? If so:

  • We should say so.
  • Should I should correct this copy (minor punctuation, etc) following that version, or are the errors in fact there?
  • Although the work is in the public domain (at least in the United States), the reason is different from stated; the relevant author (Byington) died less than 100 years ago, but the work was published before 1923.
