dictionary.com however refuses to recognize the form 'appelation'. it says it should read appellation. which I think is right. typo?

Well, things weren't quite as solid in American-English in those days, especially the 1830s. It's likely Poe used the term "appelation" before it was officially set in stone as "appellation". I'd believe the dictionary.com is modern and, therefore, "correct" by our standards. Either way, I wouldn't call Poe's term a "typo". --Midnightdreary (talk) 03:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
