Collector and Magistrate, 1887; Magistrate, Howrah, 1892; Additional Commissioner, Patna, 1896; Opium Agent, Bihar, 1896; on special duty in charge of Linguistic Survev of India, 1898 1902; retired, 1903; holds certificates of high proficiency in Bengali and Sanskrit; Hon: Fellow of the Asiatic Society of Bengal; Hony: Member, American Oriental Society; is connected with a great many other societies; was a Fellow of the Calcutta University.
