Ross, Major Sir Ronald, K.C.B., F.R.C.S., D.Sc, LL.D., M.D., F.R.S.; b. 1857; s. of General Sir C. C. G. Ross, K.C.B.; educ: at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London; entered Indian Medical Service, 1881; served with Burma Expedition, 1886; commenced special study of Malaria, 1892; discovered life history of malaria parasites in mosquitoes, 1897-8; visited West Africa, 1899; retired, 1899; Professor of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool University; Member of Council of Royal Society and an Officer of the Order of Leopold of Belgium; Awarded Nobel prize for Medicine, 1902; Editor, Science Progress and Annals of Tropical Medicine; m. Rosa Bernier, d. of Alfred Bloxham, 1889. Address: University, Liverpool.
