Sharp, Rev. John, M.A.; b. Bradford, Yorkshire, 1837; s. of late William Sharp, M.D.; belongs to the same family as John Sharp, Archbishop of York; educ: Rugby; Queen’s College, Oxford; passed B.A., 1860; M.A., 1863; became Deacon, 1861; Priest, 1864; came out to India as C.P.S. Missionary, 1864-70; Principal, Noble College, Masulipatam, 1865-78; Curate in charge of Langton, 1870-72; first University Lecturer in Telugu and Tamil, Cambridge, 1878-80; Secretary, British and Foreign Bible Society, London, 1880-1900; Sunday Evening Lecturer, St. Catharine Cree, 1881-89; Editorial Superintendent of the Holy Scriptures, and Consulting Secretary, British and Foreign Bible Society, 1900-08; Vice-President, British and Foreign Bible Society, 1908.
