BECKER, Valentin Eduard (1814-90). A German composer. He was born at Würzburg, where he became celebrated as a composer of popular male choruses (Das Kirchlein, etc.). He also wrote several masses and two operas, entitled Die Bergknappen and Der Deserteur.
