DIETRICH, dḗ'trĭK (also DIETRICI and DIETRICY), Christian Wilhelm Ernest (1712-74). A German artist, born at Weimar. As an artist he was but mediocre. His claim to distinction is that of an administrator. In 1746 he was made inspector of art galleries, in 1763 director of the manufactory of porcelain at Meissen, and in 1765 professor of the Academy of Dresden. In these capacities he did excellent service.
