ZETTERSTEDT, tsĕt'er-stĕt, Johan Vilhelm (1785-1874). A Swedish naturalist, born in East Gothland. He was educated at Lund, where he became successively tutor of botany (1810), assistant in the natural history department (1812), and professor of botany (1839). His works include Dissertatio de Fæcundatione Plantarum (1810-12); Orthoptera Sueciæ (1821); Fauna Insectorum Lapponica (1828); Monographia Scatophagarum Scandinaviæ (1835); Insecta Lapponica (1838-40), and Diptera Scandinaviæ (1842-60).
