It will be seen by our extracts from the Government Gazette that the fiat has gone forth — that Western Australia is now a PENAL SETTLEMENT, and that too, be it remembered, without a correspondent increase of public expenditure on the part of the Home Government, to render this bitter pill palatable to our colonists. We hope the convict party and their organ, to whom we are indebted for this boon, are satisfied with the degradation and infamy they have procured for their adopted country.
