The Late Mr. R. M. Ballantyne.—Mr. C. D. Jones, of Roxeth Lea, Harrow-on-the-Hill, writes to us:—"I am sure that many, I might say throughout the whole world, have seen with regret the death of Mr. R. M. Ballantyne at Rome, the noted author of books for boys. The admirable article in your issue of the 10th inst. paves the way for a suggestion which I, as one who has lately left Harrow School, feel sure will meet with general approval. It has been suggested that thousands of young men and boys, not to speak of older readers, who have spent many happy and profitable hours in reading his book will like to show some tangible appreciation to raise in his memory. The subscriptions will be applied toward the erection of a suitable monument to be placed over his grave at Rome. Any surplus will be handed over to his bereaved family. The Rev.J. F. Andrewes, M.A., the Vicarage, Roxeth, Harrow, whose church Mr. Ballantyne and family have attended for many years, has kindly consented to receive the subscriptions; or they may be paid direct to the 'Ballantyne Memorial fund', Harrow branch of the London and County Bank."
