To the Moon by Percy Bysshe Shelley

NOTE: This fragment among many others from Shelley's manuscripts was published by Mary Shelley, his wife, in her editions of 1824 and 1839. She entitled this "To the Moon". The first two lines of a second stanza were published by W. M. Rossetti in 1870: "Thou chosen sister of the spirit, That gazes on thee till in thee it pities ..."

          Art thou pale for weariness?
Of climbing heaven and gazing on the earth,
          Wandering companionless
Among the stars that have a different birth, -
And ever changing, like a joyless eye
That finds no object worth its constancy?
