Welcome to Wikisource[edit]
Hi J, Thanks for the comment about the adminship. I have accepted it & the voting process is going on now. If you'd care to leave your support you can do so at Wikisource:Administrators. Finally welcome to Wikisource, hope you enjoy it here & decide to stay & help out. AllanHainey 08:03, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Lyrics are a sticky point. Yes, while Wikisource is a free library, one would expect to find song lyrics here. And, of course, lyrics are a more than welcome addition if they're in the public domain (or GFDL, Creative Commons, etc.). This means anything written before 1923 or anything which has been explicitly placed into the PD by its creators. We've deleted a ton of lyrics from this site for not meeting public domain (or any other compatible method of release--GFDL, Creative Commons, etc.). So I would ask that if you plan on adding lyrics to tag them as to their copyright status. This way, an editor doesn't mark them up as a copyvio and so they don't get deleted by an admin. We hate deleting hard work by our contributors. Thanks.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 22:04, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Book summations[edit]
Probably not. Wikisource only collects the works themselves, but we do not provide character outlines/lists, summaries, or the sort of things you'd find on Sparknotes. These areas are for either Wikipedia or Wikibooks to create. Wikisource has only ever been a repository for works. However, we do on numerous accounts include a little history of the work called "metadata" which quickly explains the historical context in which the work was written. But they should not be very long, since it's the work and not the information that we focus on.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:02, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Librarian[edit]
This project is a very good idea! We can use this to consolidate all of our policy pages, edit/revamp/revise the ones we already have or draft ones we need (of course, there are numerous uses this project will have which will come out in the course of further development). Thanks for thinking of the idea and getting it started.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 20:25, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Actually, I do have a question[edit]
How do I nominate an article for speedy deletion? I found after I had posted Lincoln's Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction that it was already up and my earlier search had simply missed it. We obviously don't need it up twice. Rogue 9 02:31, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Though now that I think about it, it'd probably be better to make Proclamation of Amnesty into a redirect to Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction than to delete outright. (I know how to do most things on Wiki, but being an inclusionist, nominating for deletion just isn't something that's come up for me before.) Rogue 9 22:22, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Welcome messages[edit]
I see you've been adding some welcome messages, good for you however there is alraedy a welcome to wikisource template {{Welcome}} which you might want to use instead. Allan Hainey I wrote this when on another machine & hadn't logged in. Sorry
- To follow up on this, it might be even better to revise the {{welcome}} template with what it is that you've been adding. Your version is much nicer looking.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 01:43, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that! The template looks so much better this way.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:32, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Messages[edit]
Hi, thanks for your comments on the welcome template & the librarian project. Could I ask that you keep any replies to comments on an article/procedure talk page or the scriptorium on that page, rather than replying on individual user talk pages, as it helps to keep things together & allows other users to get an idea of what we're thinking & where we're going.
Thanks AllanHainey 16:53, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Sisterproject template[edit]
What renovations did you have in mind? Is it a big change, or just a minor one? I suggest you create a test template, make your changes, then post it on the Scriptorium (since if we're going to change the layout of a portion of the Main Page, this should be a community decision). Thanks.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 19:56, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
(PS: You might want to correct the "post a new message" to point to WS and not WP.)
Librarian project[edit]
I like the concept of this and have joined. Much of my work has been writing Wikisource Help pages with this end in view. However I have got in a mess with the codings in this I cannot get my name to follow under yours,. It persists in staying on the same line. Can you tweak it please. Thanks 62.7.156.227 15:41, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Date and time on signatures[edit]
Hi, I have note notices a message you lenf on a user's page. Please use 4 tildes to give the date and time as well as the signature Without these its hard to follow the track of threads. PS I like your welcome template, very handsome, especailly as it gives proper weight to the varuous Help pages wot I wrote :-) Apwoolrich 14:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
