1911 Encyclopedia Britannica complete set of scanned pages.

I have two ScanSet demos here. Please do not use this extension in the main namespace yet, there are problems with the source material which have to be fixed first.

  • /ScanSet TIFF demo -- Complete set of pages, looks very pretty if you have AlternaTIFF installed. Otherwise it may not work at all - the page may appear to load, but there will be no image. I found QuickTime's TIFF display to be slow and crashy. Visit the US Patent Office for more options.
  • /ScanSet PNG demo -- Due to the lack of antialiased scaled images, it looks uniformly bad in all major browsers, but at least it works.

Addendum, July 2009. Both methods work on Safari 4. Anyway, PNG pages are fit to the browser window and wonderfully clear and neat, whereas TIFF pages appear in a very large scale and therefore they are not easy to read and xerox-quality.
