The mysterious Header toggle button

When proofreading in the Page: namespace and you have your toolbar turned on in "my preferences" (Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript)), then you will see the button in your toolbar, and clicking it toggles the header/footer on and off. In this space we put the relevant components for top and bottoms of pages, usually by use of the template {{RunningHeader}}, so for example {{RunningHeader|Stanhope|3|Stanhope}} produces

Personally, I have my header/footer set to open in the Page: namespace and I achieved this by activating that option in my preferences (Show header and footer fields when editing in the Page namespace.) — billinghurst sDrewth 10:28, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Is that considered better style? I've been ignoring the catchwords and binding letters in the footer. In a digital version I would have thought these just a confusing annoyance. Qgroom (talk) 19:49, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Those items at the bottom appear only in the footer, so they will only be visible to someone visiting that Page in the "Page:" namespace. When the contents are transcluded in book or chapter form in the main namespace, items in the footer will not appear. We do want the full page, including headers and page footers to be transcribed, but (again) they won't appear in the completed work if placed in the header / footer. —EncycloPetey (talk) 21:18, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Quick courtesy note. I am transferring the uploaded file for this work to Commons. It is able to be hosted there, and doing that allows it to be used across of all of the wikis, rather than just locally. hi, i noticed that you use sections ==foo bar==, rather than {{center|foobar}}; and <small>FOO BAR</small> rather than {{smallcaps|Foo Bar}} for example like this Page:The Botanist's Guide Through the Counties of Northumberland and Durham (Vol 1).djvu/270

about the references- you had two <references/> in the body not footnote of the page which transcluded inline. i moved them down i.e. [1]

ligatures - i tend to use as shown, we have the latin special character set so it’s easy to do,[2] or æ, œ work as well. others may not for search engine reasons. Wikisource:Style guide/Orthography (but then i’ve been putting the greek letters in that wouldn’t scan either.)

ok, done validating, please double check me. i will go through and fix the turner references on each page, it works for the combined footnote on the book transclusion. will sweep through at Flora of Northumberland and Durham. surely that should be centered as well like the original? sorry for delay, was taking pictures of living poets. You're much quicker than me. One question, the book contains both volumes, but the way I loaded it gives the impression that only volume one is present. Do you know how to fix this? Qgroom (talk) 06:59, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

yes, it is confusing - this page here says volume 2, [3] but the rest say addendum [4] and errata [5]. i don’t know how much we can clear up the confusion of the original. Slowking4♡Farmbrough's revenge 13:49, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
