What we host[edit]

Hi. Your recent addition doesn't look to fit within Wikisource:What Wikisource includes. It is an incomplete work, and was labelled excerpts; it was unsourced (we require sources, like WP requires citations); and it has statements about commentary without clarity on whether they were personal commentary or part of the published work.

With that uncertainty, I have moved your edits to your user space while we look whether the texts fall within our scope. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:17, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: It isn't unsourced. The source is stated, though I have to go back to look at the title page for more precision. The "commentary" is only three small notes, which I moved to notes, leaving only pagination markers like "[p499]". However, you have a case regarding the size of the extract. The original document runs to 1400 pages of microfilm, much of it so poorly legible that OCR software barfs on it. I'd like to present all of it but that's beyond my endurance level. The three sections here came up in discussions on en.wikipedia, which is why I scanned and cleaned them. The only reply I have to "we don't generally publish extracts" is that they are complete in the sense that they contain all of the testimony involving a particular subject. Perhaps that isn't enough; if you think this can never have a home over here, let me know and I'll look elsewhere. Thanks. Zero0000 (talk) 23:46, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you manage to scan the whole thing and upload it (only proofreading the parts you have put up here), you should be okay. We have novels such as Index:Krishnakanta's Will (Chatterjee, Roy).djvu that are stitched together from issues of a magazine, so what you are doing is not without precedent, but compared to the aforementioned novel I'm not sure whether what you have can be taken separately from the rest.  Comment It is random excerpts that are the issue, not the progressive reproduction of components. We look to set up for the whole work, and get to bits as we can, which is the complete benefit of scans as the whole work is available and can be produced. The excerpts that contributed are just random components which cannot be built upon, nor further proofread; the title doesn't accurately reflect the content reproduced, so we need to look at what it is looking to be achieved.

I see that the whole work is available via https://hathitrust.org though it isn't 1400pp what I am looking at, so it may be in multiple volumes there. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:48, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: The only thing I can find on Hathitrust is the Commission Report. The right document is not the report of the commission but rather the much larger verbatim transcript of evidence given by witnesses. Please let me know if I'm not looking carefully enough.
