Transition all pages from template:header2 to template:header

There are about 15K pages still using the deprecated template:header2 template. Can someone transition these to template:header?

Most if not all of these where BOT'd from header to header2 around 2008 using a dedicated AutoWikiBrowser plugin (source code) if it matters any. -- George Orwell III (talk) 08:25, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

That is a lot more than we probably need as when they were converting to header2, they were doing a heap of other stuff to the header. — billinghurst sDrewth

Transition all instances of Template:p to Template:Pl

There are less than 50 pages using the template:p template. Can someone transition these to Template:Pl, a redirect already in place to the better-named Template:Page label?

I'm looking to free up the stand alone letter P for use as a paragraph-tag based template that should simplify styling etc. for all who may need such a shortcut but mostly for me to apply repetitive styling with some ease in the coming weeks. TIA. -- George Orwell III (talk) 02:32, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Volume information for EB1911

At the moment I am working through a backlog of Wikipedia pages that cite the Wikisource EB1911, the trouble is that many of them need to be attributed to the source as they are in part or totally a copy of an EB1911 article on wikisource.

Some of the information that is needed for a full citation is the volume and page number. As there are lists of EB1911 articles for each volume available eg 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Vol 1:1 it should be fairly easy to automate the placement of a volume=number parameter into the EB1911 template at the top of each page. The only two problems I foresee are that some links will be red, and some pages already have a volume parameter set. Is there a bot jock who would like to take this on?

Are you meaning that you would like to have a volume number in the header similar to what we did with DNB00? We just need to code the template accordingly for the volume, and then a bot through for the requisite pages. It isn't an issue and it actually can be done to the requisite page before or after the template is amended, just need to define the style that you want used. I would also point you to DNBset that plants DNB00 and also creates the transclusion and would suggest that we look to that as example when defining the parameters (noting that there it is 01 to 63)

Once the task is finished we can put a test in the header to create a maintenance category to see how many pages there are that use the header template but do not have the volume parameter set. We can use that to trace pages that have not been included in a volume index. -- Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 00:38, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Yep, that is easy, and like with DNB we have lots of trace elements. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:03, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Index:Deux Memoirs de Henri Poincaré.djvu

Can I get a bot to move Index:Deux Memoirs de Henri Poincaré.djvu to Index:Deux Mémoires de Henri Poincaré.djvu, and also move the corresponding pages and fix the transclusions please? The source file has been moved to the new title on Commons. Impressively, everything continues to function correctly over here through the Commons redirect. However I don't want to rely on the Commons redirect never being deleted, and the "File usage on other wikis" section of the Commons file page does not list us. Hesperian 03:41, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Done — It was only 15 pages long so I went ahead and did it manually. I didn't see any recent name change or move over on Commons under the new naming but en.WS is now listed in the File Usage regardless. Validating still needs to be done (plus, see the Double Wiki for some "inconsistancies" between the two ). -- George Orwell III (talk) 07:48, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks George. Hesperian 07:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Index:De Methodis 1578.djvu

Can I please also get a bot to delete all pages of De Methodis 1578.djvu as "No meaningful content or history"? The DjVu file is fine, the index is fine(scratch that, it is a Latin work, so out of scope), but the pages are all arrant nonsense. I don't know what the contributor was thinking, but there's nothing worth salvaging: they all look like this. Hesperian 07:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

The first 88 pages of the DjVu are blank. The contributor also forced pages 89 to 99 manually & padded them with a "zero" to maintain 3 digits throughout. It was 2 works in one file but now its just a big hot mess. Fwiw; I moved the padded 3 digit pages to the proper 2 digit namings just so we won't overlook them. -- George Orwell III (talk) 10:22, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Given that it is a Latin work, I guess I'll just nominate it for deletion. Hesperian 11:12, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
That's fair since there areexisting mainspace transclusions as well - which I already added to your deletion nomination. The individual Pages, however, have been deleted in the interim and the existing Index: data was copied to the Latin Wikisource at the same time to boot.

header text replacement

Is it possible to have a bot replace/add text to Mainspace page headers of a book? e.g.:

{{header
| title = EARTH'S MYSTERY

to:

{{header
| title = Lyrics of Life <!-- This title to replace incorrectly placed poem title -->
| year = 1909 <!-- this line to be added to header -->

If so, I have a few other Coates works that could use a similar replacement/addition in the future as I get to reworking them. Thanks, Londonjackbooks (talk) 15:17, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Here I would normally have only put the year at the top level of the work, not on each poem, then generally convert the work to be ...
| title = Lyrics of Life
... add the following line ...
| section = "content of the existing title" by using
billinghurst sDrewth 11:56, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I feel like I will never be done trying to improve/rework Coates' works. If I only knew then what I know now! Londonjackbooks (talk) 14:32, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Is that what you would like for the bot to do? — billinghurst sDrewth 02:55, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh... I was assuming, and started doing it myself with 1898/1904... Yes, please—as you have illustrated above with it being linked with the title & SUBPAGENAME in the section section. And if it wouldn't be too much trouble to perform the task with Coates' 1912 work as well? Thank you! Londonjackbooks (talk) 11:00, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you X2... With the exception of seeing 'DoubleDouble' in a few of the section sections, it worked great! It also looks like Markhurd fixed some of the author sections in the 1909 text... Thanks for that too. All is appreciated :) Londonjackbooks (talk) 23:05, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Create previously missing page at DjVu position 21

Note: In only what can be construed as an attempt to make the file "look" healthier than it really was by "fudging" the pagelist numbering of its Index: - any transclusions to the mainspace could be off by as much as plus or minus 12 pages, depending. There does not appear to be many transcluded pages thankfully. Bulk page moves in Index:Dictionary of National Biography volume 27.djvu

In this book, many pages were created prematurely mostly due to large swaths of blurred scans. As a result, there is an 8 page excess (449) from the actual page count (441) and the subsequent offsets are hard to identify throughout. Because of this, the bulk moves probably should be done in increments so a proper follow-up and verification can be done before moving the next page range.

Now that the source file & pagelist have been modified to reflect the needed & correct page progression, Please, do the following via bot:

Round One
  • Move existing DjVu positions 126 to 216 down by -8 [new range D118 to D208]
  • Move existing DjVu positions 233 to 315 down by -8 [new range D225 to D307]
Done Page and Main.--Mpaa (talk) 19:49, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks - Seems like the remaining block will be the same; move down by -8.... -- George Orwell III (talk) 19:54, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Round Two
  • Move existing DjVu positions 318 to 445 down by -8 [new range D310 to D437]
Done Page and Main.

Please let me know if help is needed to adjust mainspace pages commands afterwards. Thanks in advance. -- George Orwell III (talk) 01:58, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Bulk page moves in Index:Completeconfectioner_Glasse_1800.djvu

In this book, scan pages 250, 251, 254 and 255 were missing. Now that the source file & pagelist have been modified to include these previously missing pages, Please, do the following via bot:

  • Move existing DjVu positions 291 to 395 up by +4 [new range D295 to D399]
  • Move existing DjVu positions 289 to 290 up by +2 [new range D291 to D292]
  • Create previously missing pages at positions 294, 293, 290 and 289
Negative or positive offset needed?--Mpaa (talk) 22:24, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
That's what I get for copy & pasting.... yes positive (up) please to make room for previously missing pages. Corrected above. -- George Orwell III (talk) 22:33, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Bulk page moves in Index:Dictionary of National Biography volume 32.djvu

In this book, many pages were created in spite of the fact their thumbnails didn't match the text. In order to fix this offset for the currently not-proofread pages, the currently proofread pages need to be [re]alignedbad first. Because of this, the bulk move(s) probably should be done in increments so the project can decide if they want to continue & bulk move the unworked pages or bulk-delete them for the improved text-layer that came with the replacement source file instead.

Now that the source file & pagelist have been modified to reflect the needed & correct page progression, Please, do the following via bot:

Round One
  • Move existing DjVu positions 5 to 245 up +2 [new range D007 to D247]
Done Page and Main.--Mpaa (talk) 22:14, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Round Two
  • Move existing DjVu positions 255 to 449 down -7 [new range D248 to D442]
Done Page and Main. Did not get your comment below though.--Mpaa (talk) 23:37, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
See backround discussion HERE. Don't worry about it - I think the Project has been dealing with such poor text dumps for so long that they don't get the fact the latest OCR routines produce far "cleaner" text-layers. They'll be happy with just the better quality source file that is also complete & in-synch never mind the possible reduction in editing. -- George Orwell III (talk) 23:50, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
    • While the DNB project gets their act together, I guess there is no harm in bulk-moving the unworked pages & re-aligning the few mainspace articles in that range in the interim. If the choice is not obvious at this point then I doubt they will opt for deletion. If they do, I'll come back and request a bulk-deletion (at least the mainspace articles in that unworked range will already be aligned).
Round Three
  • Delete existing DjVu positions 253 to 415 [too far gone to do anything but start over]
Done--Mpaa (talk) 18:46, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Please let me know if help is needed to adjust mainspace pages commands afterwards. Thanks in advance. -- George Orwell III (talk) 23:11, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Volume information for EB1911

See Wikisource:Bot requests/Archives/2012#Volume information for EB1911 and Category:EB 1911 no volume

There is a category for EB1911 articles without the volume parameter set it currently stands at about 10,000. Please could a bot go through the articles adding a volume parameter? -- PBS (talk) 20:17, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

I can volunteer for this, if this is approved.
Is this the desired outcome (e.g. for 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Abbey)?

where 1 is obtained by the fact the such page is linked by 1911_Encyclopædia_Britannica/Vol_1:1?
I made some test edits here, here, here … --Mpaa (talk) 10:49, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Yes that is exactly what is wanted, and I assume you are selecting from Category:EB 1911 no volume as some pages (such as 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Abbey!) already have the the volume parameter set.
There is also a complication because some of the pages have been broken up into sections eg 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Abbey the first section of which is 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Abbey/Santa Laura so to work out the volume for that section of the Abbey article it is necessary to look at the parent's volume entry rather than the child. -- PBS (talk) 13:12, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Can I be bold and request that the subsections be merged to the one page. It seems that we are not true to the work if we start creating new subsections, AND we can manage the longer pages just fine. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:36, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
Deviating from what I stated below, I am managing also volume info for subpages on the way. It is irrelevant any how to the question above, but just FYI.--Mpaa (talk) 11:16, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that. Not to make things too complex, I was going to make a first run and see what is left as subsections. After that, let's see what is the next step.--Mpaa (talk) 14:09, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good to me ☺ -- PBS (talk) 14:38, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
In progress. It will take some time, as I supervise the output. If you find something wrong, post me a note.--Mpaa (talk) 20:52, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Completed. Except remaining pages, as per Wikisource_talk:WikiProject_1911_Encyclopædia_Britannica#Volume_information and 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Troyes, Counts of, which is unlinked in 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Vol 27:4.--Mpaa (talk) 18:37, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
That's good news. I have fixed 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Troyes, Counts of by hand. -- PBS (talk) 00:20, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Bulk page moves in Index:Dictionary of National Biography volume 53.djvu

In this book, positions 16 and 17 were duplicated among several blurred or cut-off pages. Now that the source file & pagelist have been modified to fix that issue, Please, do the following via bot:

  • Move existing DjVu positions 18 to 489 down by -2 [new range D16 to D487]

Please let me know if help is needed to adjust mainspace pages commands afterwards. Thanks in advance. -- George Orwell III (talk) 03:10, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Bulk page moves in Index:Dictionary of National Biography volume 36.djvu

In this book, a good number of page ranges were created & transcluded in spite of the fact the previous source file was of poor quality and had missing/duplicated pages. In order to ascertain any possible offsets between the existing pages and the new source file, the bulk move(s) probably should be done in increments.

Now that the source file & pagelist have been modified to reflect the correct page progression in the new source file, Please, do the following via bot:

Round One
  • Move existing DjVu positions 229 to 252 up +2 [new range D231 to D254]
  • Move existing DjVu positions 184 to 200 up +2 [new range D186 to D202]
  • Move existing DjVu positions 113 to 164 up +2 [new range D115 to D166]
  • Move existing DjVu positions 5 to 50 up +2 [new range D007 to D52]

NOTE: Any clusters of 1 to 4 pages in length found between positions D001 and D250 are being manually moved up +2 accordingly to avoid the hassle of having a Bot deal with them. No changes will be made on my end for anything transcluded to the mainspace however. DONE

Round Two
  • Move existing DjVu positions 417 to 443 up +5 [new range D422 to D448]

NOTE: Any clusters of 1 to 4 pages in length found between positions D255 and D420 are being manually moved up +4 accordingly to avoid the hassle of having a Bot deal with them. No changes will be made on my end for anything transcluded to the mainspace however. DONE

It is not clear how many positions D251-D252 are moved. +2 I assume, according to Round one above. VOID
It is not clear how many positions D417-D420 are moved. +5 I assume, according to Round two above. VOID
Can you confirm that changes in Main Ns shall follow this scheme? BELOW
  • existing DjVu positions 417 to 443 up +5 [new range D422 to D448]
  • existing DjVu positions 253 (and not 251) to 416 (and not 420) up +4 [new range D257 to D420] there are no real pages for you to worry about even after 252 becomes 254 here. Already DONE
  • existing DjVu positions 229 to 252 up +2 [new range D231 to D254]
  • existing DjVu positions 184 to 200 up +2 [new range D186 to D202]
  • existing DjVu positions 113 to 164 up +2 [new range D115 to D166]
  • existing DjVu positions 5 to 50 up +2 [new range D007 to D52]
In the meantime I am proceeding with Page moves.--Mpaa (talk) 11:02, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Please let me know if help is needed to adjust those mainspace pages commands afterwards. Thanks in advance. -- George Orwell III (talk) 07:25, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

For the future, it is not an issue for the Bot to deal with this kind of changes in Page ns as well.--Mpaa (talk) 11:02, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
If I gave you the actual list in error we'd both have heart attacks. I try to group as much as possible into straight contiguous page ranges. If we went by the gaps in this case it would be jumping back and forth from +2 to +5 several times. Its whittled down to 3 changes in the main (and only had 2 changes in Page)
Main after page ns is done
  • range D422 to D448 up by +5
  • range D255 to D421 up by +4
  • range D007 to D254 up by +2

Summa Theologica

I am currently working to format the Summa Theologica. And I am requesting permission for a bot to do simple formatting of bolding section names and section formatting that is to be done. I am requesting this bot because these edits need to be done on almost every page of the Summa which entails almost 400 pages needing the same formatting. Harryjamespotter1980 (talk) 21:20, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Can you do some examples of for what you are requiring, and link to a diff? — billinghurst sDrewth 07:55, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

There you go 1 Harryjamespotter1980 (talk) 03:25, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Not done at this time. We would not normally bold section names as the approach has been for the formatting of the headers to be consistent across works. If you think that there is a general need for a change in formatting in headers, or an exemption for a specific work then such a conversation is not appropriate here, and should be undertaken at Wikisource:Scriptorium. — billinghurst sDrewth 06:28, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

I understand I have fixed this, what about though a bot to bold specific sets of words in the Summa ex. 2 unsigned comment by Harryjamespotter1980 (talk) .

If we the know the words, and they replicate the text, then it is possible to run a bot through to either highlight a specific word, or a regular expression, presuming that it is to replicate the original text, rather than as our adding highlight. The more rules that we know about the edit the more accurate the test formatting we can undertake. — billinghurst sDrewth 06:26, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
