Mea culpa. Could you please revert this page to Ingram's version of 00:05, 28 March 2009 and validate it. Page:Popular Science Monthly Volume 86.djvu/599. Thank you. — Ineuw (talk) 15:26, 12 February 2010 (UTC) Done as a reversion billinghurst sDrewth 22:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Djvu Page move requested

In Volume 9 of PSM, the index was placed at the beginning of the volume, while the page numbers are sequential as shown below.

  1. Can an admin move the last 6 djvu pages by 10, clean up the links, delete the redirects, and reassign the index pages the proper order at the end of the volume? I can move pages but must wait about a day before the redirects are deleted. Thanks in advance. — Ineuw (talk) 19:50, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

I have no way of working out what you are talking about, thought that may just be today's headache. We cannot just move Page: pages around as that breaks the alignment with the images. If there needs to be a shuffle, it would need to start with the DjVu file. That said, you are not limited to transclude in the page order, so if the text is there you may just have to transclude it differently. With relation to the request, we can undelete the pages, though it wouldn't specifically be an admin's responsibility to do the other tasks. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:15, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi billinghurst. Nice to hear from you. Asking you to do my job was my roundabout way of learning what are the editing/modifying boundaries of a user. Experience made me cautious.— Ineuw (talk) 13:48, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

A screw up

Hi again billinghurst. When given the chance, please revert the last .djvu pages of Volume 10 to their original. I began moving the pages of the wrong volume. To atone for this transgression, I will cause you no headaches for at least a week. :-) — Ineuw (talk)

If you need something undone and to where, then please get into the histories of the respective pages and present your needs, preferably the active link to the edit difference between the last and preferred edits. The information provided is insufficient to undertake the request. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:52, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

How do I delete this?

I messed up with the title on Prepared remarks of Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero, “Losing Our Memory,” as part of the Provost’s Lecture Series, Duke University/Introduction/A Century Ago. I didn't mean to have it be spin-off of Introduction, I wanted it to be spin-off of the main article. Joe Chill (talk) 18:41, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Add {{sdelete}}, with the reason, and unlink the page. Cygnis insignis (talk) 19:34, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Botched move

My apologies.

I moved Agreement relating to Malaysia between United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Federation of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore thinking it would be easy.

The previous page title Treaty of relating to... is grammatically wrong and does not match the name of the source document.

However, I didn't realise it was still under construction and a maze of linked subpages, so I stopped after moving the main page and 1 subpage.

If someone with tools can fix my mess, I'd be grateful (You could safely just roll back all my edits - this is first time I edited wikisource)

I do think it should probably be moved in the long run - but all I have achieved is a mess.

Apologies again Begoon (talk) 13:58, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Done All aligned. I moved the overarching page back, collected the remaining subpages, and moved them all back. I will tidy up the redirects shortly. A question back, is the source document available as either a DjVu or PDF file? If so, we can do some magicbillinghurst sDrewth 14:36, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks - appreciated. Yes it's a 235 page pdf.. Begoon (talk) 14:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

  • The account "Prasannakumar" could not be automatically confirmed as belonging to you on the following sites; most likely they have a different password from your primary account:

en.wikibooks.org en.wikisource.org te.wikipedia.org this is the problem how do i solve it,I already have account on Meta Wiki as Prasannakumar but someone has already taken that name on Wikisource I guess,If you could help in this regard please let me know.Wiki Prasannakumar (talk) 15:12, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

On that page it talks about usurping an account and it explains the process. At Wikisource, such requests are made at WS:ANbillinghurst sDrewth 00:59, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Created a duplicate

Hi, could someone bother to delete Wikisource:Books/Alice in Wonderland which is a duplicate of Wikisource:Books/Alice's Adventures in Wonderland I created by mistake. Thanks! Need an image moved to Commons from Wikipedia

Reaching out here...

Rather than uploading another copy on yet another sister site - is there anybody out there who can simply move Executive_Order_6102.jpg From Wikipedia to Commons so I can transcribe it for WS? Its been tagged for the move by someone else but I suspect nobody over there is in much of a hurry to do it. Thanks in advance. George Orwell III (talk) 03:29, 3 September 2010 (UTC) Done. File:Executive_Order_6102.jpg Added one category for the work at Commons, you may wish to do more. — billinghurst sDrewth 06:01, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

How do I change my username? I have been outed by one of the administers here, and I want to start afresh with a new name. How do I achieve this? I must do this if I am going to consider continuing here. And it can’t be openly done, as those that are bent on harassing me will continue under by new name. I am very upset. Help!

I am having terrible troubles with adding in Wakulla by Kirk Munroe. It needs an OCR layer, and i just dont know what else. Could someone get me started? - Tannertsf (talk) 21:15, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Also at Wikisource:Scriptorium#kirk_munroe. Go to Gutenberg, copy the text, add it to Wakulla, fix the formatting you find there. I don't think you need the Index:Wakulla, there is no scan of the original printed pages. cygnis insignis 00:45, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Removing the leading "The" from page names

Hello, I have started some new pages (below). However, I realized after adding them that I should probably not have "The" as the beginning of the page name itself, and this seems to be against the normal practices here. Is there a way for me to change these myself? Or is that what this page is actually for? I am familiar with Wikipedia moves and renaming, which can be done as a user, but I am not familiar with the procedure on WikiSource.

Thank you. Lapislazulitexts (talk) 03:04, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

The procedure is the same here, however new users need to wait a few days before the 'move' action is available. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:28, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I guess they don't count on new users starting new pages. :-( lapislazulitexts (talk) 04:18, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
New accounts per wiki, I would hazard a guess that you just never noticed at WP as you were new.

With regard to naming of works, we give them the actual name as published, and if not published documents (historical works) then something that relates to the provinence of the work, especially where the work was originally published in another language. Generally we would include the translator's name in the title as in time works can have be translated by others, and we allow multiple copies of works as they can differ. Also worth having a look at Wikisource:Translations as the works are not from published (peer-reviewed) source. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:08, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

I read the policies on translation, and from what I understand about it, they are considered to have been published before, since they were previously released on the website officially for distribution. Although I have a WikiSource account, the translations themselves are not "WikiSource" translations, as they were published first in a different location and have one translator. As I understand the licensing, if others wished to make alterations, they would be required to distinguish the two works. lapislazulitexts (talk) 01:50, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes and no. From Wikisource's point of view, they would still be considered self-published and not peer-reviewed. If one continues that thinking anything web-published would be capable of being published at WS as per information at Wikisource:What Wikisource includes. — billinghurst sDrewth 05:29, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
These really aren't "Wikisource" translations. They are careful translations made by myself for the express purpose of being able to give them away to people who want to read and learn, under the appropriate free licenses. They shouldn't be open to rephrasing or "collaborative" fixes made on a whim by other users. I also don't really like the idea that no credit would even be given on the main page, and I would just be a "collaborator" on the talking page. Isn't there a way for the Commons to accept quality new translations while still respecting the translator? lapislazulitexts (talk) 06:08, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Sure, though I am sure that you can understand that you are now placing yourself as an authority and for which we have no ability to test, and that adds a level of dilemma. Easy to do and that would be putting your name into the Translator field and that would then link through to an Author: page; and generally we would also go through the OTRS to have the text hosted for proper authority to host. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:44, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Giving new accounts the 'move' permission would allow idiots to create a big mess very quickly.
Obviously you are not going to do something like that, but it doesn't hurt to give good contributors a few days to learn the finer aspects of our naming conventions. ;-)
Your new pages are not causing any disputes, so you can safely assume that they are not 'badly' named. Feel free to take as much time as you need before moving them.
John Vandenberg (chat) 02:29, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Good point about it being some time to figure out the naming conventions... lapislazulitexts (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Thinking of installing wikimedia to my Genealogy site...Can I get help?

Hi I'm Larry Harrell and I'm thinking about adding mediawiki (specifically wikipedia and wikisource) to my Genealogy website. I am brand new to wiki products but love wikipedia and am captivated with the aspect of wikisources. I pretty competent in the installation process but I think I will need lots of help configuring to work properly for my users. Is ther someone that can be assigned to my account as a support installation person to help me? I am brand new to the installation side of wiki porducts. I basically looking to make wiki products available for my customers re: wikipedia for places, people, events, etc. My genealogy software in TNG (The next Generation of Genealogy Site-Building 8.0.2) and I believe you have a MOD just for us. I need to know I will have the support I need in this endeavor as this is a paid subscription site and I can't crash it.

Anxiously awaiting your reply, Larry W. Harrell

Hello! Wikisource is a free library of source texts, and the documentation on this site is about contributing to Wikisource. If you need help with MediaWiki, you should consult the Help and Support pages on the MediaWiki site. Cheers, stephen (talk) 20:31, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

help - adding texts

Help with TOC and tables

Is there somewhere that explains how to code a TOC and other tables. I can’t figure out how to do it. There seem to be many different methods in use. I would like to learn a simple method. Thanks, Mattisse (talk) 23:43, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

There is nothing available about coding ToC, and you are correct in that there are a variety of styles, often depending in the complexity of the existing ToC. In the end it is an experience thing, and persistence to how exact the contributor wants to get the work. For tables, probably w:Help:Table in combination with CSS styling with tablesbillinghurst sDrewth 10:47, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
