GOZZADINA, (BETTISIA) a learned Lady of Bologna, who died 1249.

In 1232, at the age of twenty-three, she pronounced a beautiful funeral oration in Latin, in the great church of Bologna. She applied herself particularly to the study of the law, became a doctor in that university, and obtained a professor's chair in 1239, gave public lessons and composed many works on the law, which obtained her the esteem of all Europe. She would never marry.
