אוניה f. (=אונאה; cmp. Ezek. XI.VI, 18) prop. oppression, wrong, hence confiscation, dispossession. Pl. אוניות. Midr. Till. to Ps. CIV, 24 (play on oniyoth ibid.) וכ׳ הא׳ אלו those are the oppressive measures which they inflict upon lIsrael, which they order to be written out eveny day. *Pesik. R. Hash. p. 15 1a; Yalk. Jer. 312 וזמיות הוניות confiscations and fines (Yalk. Gen. 121; Lev. R. s. 29, a. e. ארנוניות, v. Buber Pesik. l. c. note).

אונייקי, א׳ בית pr. n. pl. Beth-Unyaki, Bithynia, in Asia Minor (cmp. Neub. Geogr. pp. 262; 422). Yoma 10a א׳ בית זה תובל (Ms. M. אונקי indistinct; oth. Var., v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) ubal means B. אונכרי, אוונכרי m. pl. (prob. nom. gentil. from a trading station named אוונכר, a compound of אאוונא [a. אכר?]; cmp. אונא) Avankreans(), traders. Succ. 30ab. [Ar. identifies our w. with אכונגר which is not in agree- ment with the context.]

אונס m. (אנס) compulsion, force; unavoidable inter- ference, accident. Git. 30a, a. e. בגיטין א׳ אין the plea of unavoidable interference cannot be raised in letters of divorce (to which a condition is attached). Y. M. Kat. III, 81d bot., a. e. אונסו מחמת through no fault of his. -- Pl. אונסים, אונסין. Ned. III, 1, a. e. א׳ נדרי vows on conditions unavoidably unfulfilled.
אונס m. ch. (v. foreg.) wrong, oppression. Targ. Is. IVIII, 9; 13 דא׳ מלין offensive (violent) words (h. text וןs, cmp. אונאה).
אונסא m. ch. (=h. אונס, v. foreg.) force, wrong. robbery; accident. Targ. Y. Gen. XXXI, 12; a. fr. -- Git. 34a. א׳ משום אי shall we take into consideration the possibility of an unavoidable accident? - Pl. אונסיא. Ned. 27b דמיגליא א׳ (read דמיגליי, Rashi אונסא) accidents which may be foreseen.

אונקוס m. (~~~~) 1) bulk, pile; (in philosophy) a primitive body. Tanh Trum. 11 מים של א׳ the body of water; אש של א׳ (some ed. אוננקנוס). 2) trouble, diffft- culty, painstaking. Gen. R. s. I2 (ref. to Neh. IX, 6 sq.) וכ׳ הזה הא׳ כל (ed. אונקים, corr. acc.) what is all this painstaking (creating the universe &c.) for? Ans. Because thou art the Loord who hast chosen Abraham' i. e. for the sake of establishing religion on earth; cmp. Midr. Till. to Ps. CIV, 18.

אונקיא f. (uncia, ~~~~~) 1) ounce, one twelfth of a litra. Gen. R. s. 17 כסף של א׳ an ounce of silver. Lam. R. to I, 1 (העיר) אונקא מן נסבון (corr. acc.) they bought ounce-wise (pepper). -- 2) trnsf. a trife, particle. Y. Taan. IV, 68c top there is not a generation in which there is not (to be atoned for through suffering) וכ׳ אחת אונקי (read אחת אונקיא) a particle of the sin of the calf- worship. Ex.
