בצץ (v. בצבץ) to break through, divide; to ooze, trickle, drip. Y. Pes. VII, beg. 34a משקין בוצצין העצים כל all other sorts of wood (used for roasting spits) will drip moisture. Y. M. Kat. I, beg. 80a; Tosef. Mikv. I, 13 בוצצין ההרים (ed. Zuck. ביצין) the mountains are trick- ling (sending the rain water into the rivers; cmp. preced.).
בצק m. (b. h.; בצק, בץ, to break open, split, v. Deut. VIII, 4; cmp. סדק a. denom.) dough. Pes. III, 2 (46a) ב׳ החרש deaf dough, i. e. having no indications of rising (which makes it doubtful whether or not fermentation has set in); [oth. reading החרש ב׳ hard and smooth as a potsherdl. Ib. 4; a. fr. - Pl. בצקות. Ib. 40a.
בצר (b. h.; בץ, cmp. בצע) to cut grapes. Pes. 3b בטהרה בוצרין one must cut grapes under the rules of levitical cleanness. Gitt. 57a וכ׳ כרמיהן את . . בצרו the gentiles held vintage in vineyards soaked with Israel's blood; a. fr. Nif. נבצר 1) to be cut. Ex. R. s. 30, beg. עונתן שתגיע עד ליבצר until their (the nations) time has arrived to be cut (ripe for punishment). 2) to be cut of, diminished. Tanh.. Noah 18 וכ׳ מן נבצרים cut of from the world (destroyed). Gen. R. s. 38 מהם יבצר shall be denied them. Pi. בצר, ביער to cut off, whence (cmp. גדר) 1) to sur- round, fortify. Part. pass. מבוצר. Y. Pes. בצר, בציר ch. 1) (neut. v.) to be cut, lessened; to be small; to want. Ab. Zar. 99a בצרן כמה (Rashi בצירן) how much is wanting yet? Targ. Prov. XIV, 28 עמא בציר the population is diminishing. -- Hull. 42b חדא להו בצר there is, according to him, one less (than the number stated); a. fr. -- 2) (act. v.) to diminish, lessen. Targ. Y. Deut. XIII, 1; IV, 2 (Var. תבצרון Pa.). Targ. Job XV, 4. -- Nidd. 65a חדא לה למבצר to allow her one night less; a. fr. Pa. בצר to cut of; to diminish, deduct. Men. 37b האי לגלימיה דבצריה מאן he who cuts one corner of his cloak off. - Targ. Koh. III, 5. Targ. Deut. IV, 2, a. e., v. supra. -- Ab. Zar. 9b וכ׳ ונבצר we let him deduct therefrom forty eight. B. Mets. 103b לך בצרי Ilet thee have it for less. -- Denom. בצירא one who uses the vowel letters sparingly. Ab. Zar. 9ab and as a mnemonical sign (for remember- ing when to add and when to deduct) וכ׳ ב׳ ספרא the writer of Bible copies writes many words without the vowel letters(defective) which the Mishnah teacher writes plene.
בצר m. (b. h.) 1)=בציר crop, trnsf. means of support, (family-) trade. Ex. R. s. 0, end בצרו מניח . . . . לעולם one should never give up his trade; Pesik. R. s. 6, end בצירו מחליף (Arakh. 16 אבותיו ואומנות אומנותו). Ex. R. l. c. (insert Job XXII, 24-- 25 as text) the Lord says, וכ׳ כצרן . . . . בצרכן הוא אני I am your support, give ye never up your support (faith); but also the support of your fathers ye must not give up (labor) &c. Pesik. R. l. c. thou art our God ובצירנו and our support (ref. to Ps. XCV, 6). -2) pl. בצרים fort. Ex. R. l. c. (ref. to Job l. c.; cmp. Targ.) חומותיך שנעשה He will be thy forti- fication. [Yalk. בקא m., בקתא f. (בקק to enter into, search, v. P. Sm. 573; cmp. בינא III, ביניתא a. פשפש) gnat. Hull. 58b יומא בר ב׳ לית no gnat lives an entire day. Ib. ליה תלו וכ׳ לב׳ they suspended on the gnat's proboscis sixty &c. Ib. לבקא בקת׳ אמראי Ar. (ed. מבקא ב׳ אמרא) the she-gnat quarrelled with the he-gnat, v. מרי. -- Pl. בקי.
