גרוסה h. a. ch. m. (v. גריס) grist-maker or dealer. Y. Ber. I, 2d bot. R. Jacob ׳. Y. Maas. Sh. גרופית f. (גרף, cmp. אגרוף) [as large as a fist,] little stump or shoot. Kel. XII, 8 זית של ג׳ a vessel made out of a piece of an olive tree; Tosef. ib. B. Mets. II, 19 he who makes vessels זית של מג׳ R. S. to Kel. l. c. (ed. Zuck. גרפות, גפו, corr. acc.). -- Metaph. שקמה של ג׳ block of a. sycamore tree, i. e. a man barren of thought, ignorant; barren of merits, worthless. Tanh. B'huck. 5 Jephtah was as poor in the Law שקמה של כגרופו (ed. Bub. 7 היה ש׳ של גרופות, note; גרופית) as a block &c. -- Y. Ab. Zar. II, 40c; Gen. R. s. 25, end; Ruth R. s. גרוש m., גרושה f. (part. pass. of גרש) a divorced spouse. Pes. 112a ג׳ שנשא ג׳ a divorced husband who married a divorced wife. Ib. בעלה בחיי ג׳ marrying a divorced wife while her husband is yet alive. Ned. 20b הלב גרושת divorced at heart, one whom her husband is determined to divorce; a. fr. -- Pl. גרושים, f. גרושות. Yalk. Jer. 268 לי אתם ג׳ וכי are ye divorced from me (the Lord)?
גרושין, גירושין m. pl. (גרש) sending of, divorce. Gen. R. s. 19; Lam. R. introd. 4 (ref. to Gen. III, 23 sq.) ובג׳ בשלוחין אותו דנתי Ipunished him with expulsion and banishment. -- Gitt. 64a לגי׳ אומר שליש the trustee says (the letter has been given me not as a deposit but) as a letter of divorce which I was authorized by thy wife to receive in her behalf. -- Y. Kidd.I, 58c top ג׳ להן אין גוים the law of divorce (according to Deut. XXIV, 3) does not apply to gentiles. Ib. וכ׳ ג׳ להם שאין או either they have not the institution of divorce, or either may divorce the other; Gen. R. s. 18; a. fr.

גרזימי, גרזימיתא, גרזמיתא f. (גרזימין m. pl.) (נרזם, Parel of גזם, cmp. b. h. כרסם) nibblings, dessert (mostly of fruits, v. infra). Lam. R. introd. 10 I wished they had made me (the Lord) וכ׳ הזו כגרזימי ed. (Var. גריזמי, Ar. גרוז׳) like dessert which (at least) is served up at the end; Esth. R. to I, 9 הזה ככרזימין(); Yalk. Is. 318 וכ׳ כגרומזי (corr. acc.). Y. Ber. VI, 10c bot. גריזמי, גריזמתה ed. Krot. (Ar. פרפרת=(גרוזמתא a. כיסנין. Gen. R. s. 33 וכ׳ דדהב גרוזמי Ar. Var. גרי, גרה (b. h.) 1) to be rough, grating, scraping; v. גרה, גרון &c. -- 2) to be hot, burn, singe (cmp. חדה). Pi. גירה, גרה to incite, stir up, let loose. Snh. 107b וכ׳ דובים שגי׳ because he let the bears loose against the children. Ex. R. s. 21 לפרעה ג׳ He incited Pharaoh &c. Gen. R. s. 19, end (interpret. hishshiani, Gen. III, 13) גירני. Cant. R. to I, 4 (play on משכני ib.) בי שגרית ממה הרעים שכני from my hostile neighbors whom thou hast incited against me. - Trnsf. בר הדוב את ג׳ to let temptation loose against. Gen. R. s. 87 וכ׳ בך מגרה אני I shall lay temptation in thy way; a. fr. -- Lev. R. s. 17 שיגרה ביום וכ׳ on the day when the Lord shall stir up his anger &c. Hithpa. התגה, Nithpa. נתגרה 1) to be infamed, ealous; to rival. Snh. 19a בזו זו מתגרות jealous of one another. -- 2) to engage in battle, to fight. Ber. 7b; Meg. 6b מותר וכ׳ להתגרות it is permitted to enter into combat with the wicked (with reference to b. h. התחרה). -- Num. R. s. 19 בהם נתג׳ he attacked them. -- 3) to be let loose. Esth. R. introd. הדוב אותה נתגרתה that temptation was aroused (against Joseph), v. supra; Num. R. s. 13 מתגרת. -- 41) to have a passion for, to indulge freely in. Yoma 76b wine is called תירש, because he רש נעשה בו המתגרה who in- dulges in it becomes poor. Ab. Zar. 18b;19b בשינה אתגרה I will freely indulge in leep (idleness). -- 5) (denom. of תגרה) to incite. Num. R. s. 18; Tanh. Korah 3 להתגרות וכ׳ את בו to incite lsrael against him.
גרי, גרא ch. same. - Pa. גרי 1) to incite, let loose. Targ. Num. XXI, 6; a. fr. -- 2) to. let of, drive, thrust. Naz. 4b בהו ג׳ גרויי דילמא perhaps he thrust (the jaw bone) at them (without touching them; Ar. a. Rashi; וכ׳ גרד גרדויי, obviously for גרר גררויי, cmp. גיררא, v. Koh. Ar. Compl. s. v.).
