ספקלאטור, ספקלטור masc. (speculator. v. איספקלטור) executioner. Sifre Num. 91. Lev. R. s. 26 נעשה וכ׳ לכל ס׳ (the serpent) has become the executioner for all who break down fences (of customs, with ref. to Koh. X, 8). Lam. R. to II, 1; a. fr. -- Pl. ספקלטורים, ספקלטורין. Ib. introd. ספר (b. h.) [to cut; to mark,] 1) to write; to count. Y. Kil. VII, end, 31a יסור he (who is in possession of prop- erty bought from an oppressor, v. אנס) must count (settle with the original owner according to rules, v. גורדייני), opp. יחזיר he must returmn the property; ib. יספר (or יספר Pi.). Kidd. 30a סופרים שהיו, v. סופר. Nidd. 69a סופרתן וכ׳ למנין she counts them in with the requisite number of seven days. Ib. 31a וכ׳ וסופר יושב sits and records the copulations &c. III, 50d ולמשנה לס׳ טובלין. . . בית (not למש׳ ולא) school houses for Bible and Talmud make fruits tebel for the Bible teacher and for the Talmud teacher. [Perh. to be read; ספפר Chald. form.]-- 2) hair-cutter, barber. Sabb. I,2 וכ׳ הס׳ לפני אדם ישב לא one must not sit down for the hair-cutter near Minah time before saying the prayer. Shebi. Sot. 42a וכ׳ בס׳ אחת עמו מדבר פעמים the priest addressed the people twice, once on the border line (before entering the enemy's land) and once before the battle. Tosef. Erub. Ib. וכ׳ לס׳ הסמוכה כעיר ובבל and Babylonia is (as regards the duty of defence) like a town near the bound- ary, which was interpreted to mean Neharde'a. Num.
