AFTER.
After the urge of beauty through a few warm pulses,
A day will come, if it but be a day,
When clouds will slip bodily into the ocean,
And the blue sky will steal softly away.

After the cry of beauty borne by a few voices,
A night will come, if but a night it be,
When waves, like veins, will lose their restless beating,
And stars, like lights, will go out suddenly.

After beauty has swirled away into darkness,
Joys will never meet again, nor sorrows part,
Only silence will roam over the nothingness
Like the vast cry of a mighty, broken heart. . . .
