Indian mythological author, author of the Mahbharata and other sacred Hindu texts, according to Hindu mythology. He had the epithet "Veda-Vyasa", the splitter of the Vedas; traditionally he had edited the original Veda and split it into three Vedas (the last one, the Atharva Veda, was added later); acquired the name Krishna-Dwaipayana due to his birth complexion.
