Died at Gillingham, Dorset, Sept. 11, 1661. Will, P.C.C. Brother of Ralph (1663) and William (1659). (Al. Oxon.)

Records of Wadham College [1]:

George Davenant. C. 3 March, 1647 (Dorcestr.). CM. received 2 March, 1647, restored 8 Oct. 1648. He replied to the Visitors 12 May, 1648: If the authoritie of Parliament be grounded with the consent of the Kinge, I will humbly submitt, if it be not, in conscience I cannot." He was returned as not submitting on 15 May, 1648. However he M. at Queens 18 Nov. 1650, Doctoris fil. B.A. 26 Feb. 165/51/2. M.A. (Oriel) 4 July, 1655. On 6 Feb. 1653, the Visitors forbade that any of the P.'s of Oriel (of whom George Davenant was one) should be admitted F.s: nevertheless the Dean admitted George Davenant, whereupon on 23 Feb. the Visitors made void his admission, and reduced him again to the condition of a P.
He was brother of the above, and son of Dr. Edward Davenant of Gillingham, Wilts, at which place he died 11 Sept. 1661, and was there buried. (Wood, MS.) (Hutchins, III. 643.)
