Hubbard (1808-1894) and Sarah Ogden Johnson Hubbard (1812-1840,) was born in New York City, New York, attended New York, New York, public schools, fitted for college at a Brookfield, Massachusetts, preparatory school, served in Union army during the American Civil War in field and special service from 1861 until 1865, married Harriett "Hattie" Louise Knapp in Sing Sing/Ossining, New York, in 1865, was employed as the purser on the Cromwell Line steamers, New York and New Orleans in 1868, was engaged in the lumber and hardware trade in Grinnell, Iowa, from 1868 until 1872, was engaged in the hardware business in Minneapolis from 1872 until 1874, was a flour manufacturer, was employed by Charles A.
