Eugenics is a social, political, and scientific philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention ranging from classification to extermination of disfavoured members of society (frequently racial or cultural groups). The philosophy was largely discontinued after the Holocaust, but new advances in genetics are reopening the issue.
