The title text is strictly false. There are many works with unknown translators, including many published in the United States prior to 1923 (PD-US) and even published prior to 1808, which would make it quite obviously PD-OLD.--Prosfilaes (talk) 16:26, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I havent seen any of these yet, as good translations usually push the translator into prominence, and bad translations are often lost (or not digitised).
When we do have a translation which is known to be PD yet the translator is not known, we will need some better naming.
We could use "missing" translator to refer to cases where the translator has not been investigated/identified. Then "unknown" could be used when the translator is known to be not known.
