Executive Order 394-A

All of those lands in the State of Minnesota which are bounded and described as follows, so far as they are legally subject to reservation, are hereby withdrawn from sale or other form of disposition for the use of the War Department in connection with the construction, operation, and maintenance of a reservoir system at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, viz:


  1. An island in Aitkin Lake, section 17, township 50 north, range 23 west of the fourth principal meridian, bounded as follows:
    Beginning at a point on the south line of said section 17, 17,645 feet south and 1,605 feet west of the meander corner on the east line of said section; thence north 13° 30′ west, 450 feet; thence south 89° west, 205 feet; thence south 25° 30′ east, 470 feet to the south line of said section 17; thence east 100 feet to the point of beginning; containing two acres, more or less. The east line of said section 17 is used as a meridian in this description.
  2. An island in Pokegama Lake, section 21, township 54 north, range 25 west of the fourth principal meridian, bounded as follows:
    Beginning at a point 2,515 feet north and 365 feet west of the quarter corner on the east line of said section 21; thence west, 225 feet; thence south 63° 30′ west, 255 feet; thence south 29° east, 285 feet; thence northeasterly 480 feet to the point of beginning; containing two acres, more or less. The east line of said section 21 is used as a meridian for this description.
  3. An island in Pokegama Lake, section 22, township 54 north, range 25 west of the fourth principal meridian, bounded as follows:
    Beginning at a point 965 feet north and 700 feet west of the meander corner on the east line of lot 4, in said section 22; thence north 12° west, 150 feet; thence south 77° 30′ west, 220 feet; thence south 12° east, 155 feet; thence northeasterly 220 feet, more or less, to the point of beginning; containing seventy-six one-hundredths (0.76) of an acre, more or less. The east line of said section 22 is used as a meridian for this description.
  4. Two small islands in Leyton Lake, section 34, township 55 north, range 27 west of the fourth principal meridian, bounded as follows:
    (a) Beginning at a point on the east line of said section 34, 1,310 feet north of the southeast corner of said section; thence south 14° west, 120 feet; thence north 87° 30′ west., 580 feet; thence north 35° east, 300 feet; thence southeasterly 470 feet, to the point of beginning; containing 2.5 acres, more or less.
    (b) Beginning at a point on the south line of said section 34, 1,185 feet west of the southeast corner of said section; thence north 34° west, 390 feet; thence south 59° 40′ west, 205 feet; thence south 46° 30′ east, 330 feet to the south line of said section; thence east, on the said south line, to the point of beginning; containing 1.7 acres, more or less.
    The east line of said section 34 is used as a meridian for these descriptions.
  5. An island in Camp Lake, in the northeast quarter of section 5, township 137 north, range 27 west of the fifth principal meridian, bounded as follows:
    Beginning at a point 1,780 feet south and 1,210 feet east of the quarter corner on the north line of said section 5; thence north 69° 30′ east, 330 feet; thence north 5° 30′ west, 775 feet; thence south 63° 30′ west, 425 feet; thence south 19° west. 265 feet; thence south 27° east, 500 feet to the point of beginning; containing 8.3 acres, more or less. The center line of said section 5 is used as a meridian in this description.
  6. Unsurveyed lands which have formed in Mud Lake and the part of said lake now known as "Goose Lake," since the original government surveys of townships 143 and 144 north, range 26 west of the fifth principal meridian, and lie southerly of Leech Lake River, as follows:
    (a) In sections 3, 4, 5, 8. 9. and 16 of township 143 north, range 26 west—those portions of said sections which are indicated in red on map marked "Map No. 6. Pokegama Reservoir. Survey made under the direction of Major Frederic V. Abbot, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Map made under the direction of Major D. W. Lockwood, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Horace Dunaway, Surveyor, 1900."
    (b) In sections 32 and 34, township 144 north, range 26 west—those portions of said sections which are indicated in red on map marked "Map No. 7. Pokegama Reservoir. Survey made under the direction of Major Frederic V. Abbot, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Map made under the direction of Major D. W. Lockwood, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Horace Dunaway, Surveyor, 1900."

  7. Unsurveyed land in the southwest corner of section 36, township 144 north, range 28 west of the fifth principal meridian, indicated in red on map marked "Map No. 8. Leech Lake Reservoir. Survey made under the direction of Major Frederic V. Abbot, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Map made under the direction of Major D. W. Lockwood, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A. Horace Dunaway, Surveyor, 1900."
