English: Fig. 675.—Royal arms granted by King Richard II to Thomas de Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk (1366-1399), showing the ostrich feather badges/supporters. Azure, a cross flory between five marlets or (attributed arms of Edward the Confessor, King of England) impaling arms of Plantagenet with a label of three points argent for difference (for Thomas of Brotherton, 1st Earl of Norfolk). Arms granted to Thomas de Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk (1366-1399) by King Richard II, who had himself adopted in his own arms a similar impalement by the attributed arms of Edward the Confessor, with whom he had a "mystical union". (Source: Complete Guide to Heraldry Fig 675). Shield at dexter: Gules, a lion rampant argent (Mowbray); shield at sinister: Sable, a lion rampant argent crowned or (Segrave). Thomas de Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk was the second son of John de Mowbray, 4th Baron Mowbray, and Elizabeth de Segrave, suo jure Lady Segrave, daughter and heiress of John de Segrave, 4th Baron Segrave, by Margaret, Duchess of Norfolk, daughter and heiress of Thomas of Brotherton, 1st Earl of Norfolk, a son of King Edward I.
