Summary

Description
English: Plate 4.

Arms of Swinton of that Ilk.

Arms of Speke of Jordans. The original arms "argent, two bars azure". The augmentations were granted to William Speke in honour of his son John Hanning Speke's discovery of the sources of the Nile. On a chief a representation of flowing water superinscribed with the word "Nile," and for a crest of honourable augmentation a "crocodile," also the supporters following—that is to say, on the dexter side a crocodile, and on the sinister side a hippopotamus. Supporters are uncommon in the achievements of untitled families.
