Description
English: Illustration for the poem "Faristan and Fatima: An Oriental Legend" by Edgar Alfred Bowring. Once a Week, Volume 3, page 378. Depicts the tailor Faristan in poor-but-blissful domestic life with his wife Fatima. Piers Dudgeon says, "[Du Maurier] got his first commission from a magazine called Once a Week. Luke Ionides had sat for him cross-legged, dressed as a Turk, the illustration for an article entitled 'Faristan and Fatima.'"
