Description
English: Photograph of Reverend Adolph Saphir (1831-1891), a Hungarian-born convert from Judaism to Presbyterianism, who studied divinity in Scotland and became a missionary to the Jews in England, Austria, and elsewhere. The photograph is credited "T. Roger, St. Andrews." and is a printed as a photogravure by the Swan Electric Engraving Co. Not dated, but it was in the fall of 1880 that Saphir spent some months in St. Andrews. His age then was 49, consistent with his appearance in the photo.
