Artist Sir Thomas Lawrence, P.R.A. (1769-1830). Black and white photograph of the original oil painting in colour, 49" x 39", in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, #354.

In the background sacked Rome is burning. By Taylor's left hand is a book of the works of Plato.
