Summary

Description
English: Illustration for Chapter 13 of Verner's Pride as serialized in Once a Week (volume 7, page 183). Lionel Verner has just learned that he's been disinherited, to his great surprise, and that of Bitterworth, a family friend. Bitterworth asks if he knows why: " 'I brought before me all the events which had occurred ... and there rose up naturally, towering above every other reminiscence, the unhappy business touching Rachel Frost. Lionel,'—laying his hand on the young man’s shoulder, and dropping his voice to a whisper—'did you lead the girl astray?' "
