Formatting of poems in this work[edit]

  • Do not use <poem> tags, instead use {{block center}} and explicit <br /> at the end of each line.
Use {{block center/s}} and {{block center/e}} for poems that span more than one page.
  • Where lines in a stanza are inset use {{gap}}—adjusting length as necessary.
  • Use a double return between stanzas.
  • use {{larger}} for poem titles

Question: Do we keep OCR ;quote or convert to standard —"— ? Outlier59 (talk) 01:35, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I would convert. Londonjackbooks (talk) 09:52, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editor awareness of book formatting guidelines[edit]

Maybe the notice on the index page (with orange circles with exclamation points) isn't prominent enough. I know I didn't see it when I first started editing—it fades into the background. It might be helpful if it were more prominent (with bold colors), and also if it appeared on each page of the book—so that someone working on a single page is aware that formatting guidelines for the book have been established or are under discussion. Some editors of this current book seem unaware of the formatting guidelines noted here. Outlier59 (talk) 02:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I took notice of that. I plan on going through page by page once all is said and done and standardizing. Londonjackbooks (talk) 02:14, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

dhr[edit]

It seems that {{dhr}} between pages do not give constant intervals between verses after transclusion (at least with Internet Explorer). Bradype (talk) 08:21, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It should be two blank lines and a {{nop}} when a stanza break occurs at the end of a page. {{dhr}} has other uses, but it's not suitable for poetry. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 08:31, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
See how this display looks to you. It's about 100 pages of the book. Some of the centering isn't correct right now, but the line spacing mostly looks pretty good to me (I'm using Firefox). Tell me how it looks to you. Outlier59 (talk) 12:07, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see it fine until "And, parting tangled bushes as I passed", "Thrice dear to them whose votive fingers decked",… after which the space is higher. And in The Wanderer, after "And coast-towns where the vultures back and forth". The Rendezvous is clean.
Some line breaks are missing, after "The season's emulative splendors are", "Sweet lips that sacrifice and arms that yield". Bradype (talk) 12:55, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see what you mean now. Beeswaxcandle is right -- {{dhr}} definitely doesn't work for spacing between pages, and the spacing between stanzas looks a bit different using two line spaces or using dhr. I thought they were the same, but there's a bit of difference. I'll try to get back and fix my dhr's later today.
Missing line breaks are MUCH easier to spot! Outlier59 (talk) 13:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
