Table of Contents[edit]

I've finally trawled through formatting up the table of contents, which is pages 15-31, but now I'm getting a 'Template is too large' error when I try and use it on the Index page down the right hand side. Template change required. This template cannot carry overload, in this instance it can carry upto page 27. {{TOC begin}} and associated templates, or {{TOCstyle}} should be used. But TOCbegin group is also based on dtpl, so may also cause template break. Requesting @ShakespeareFan00: for attempt with {{TOCstyle}}. Hrishikes (talk) 01:53, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That would be fabulous, thank you. I'm not familiar with {{TOCstyle}} (I see that it's currently being created) but it looks like a much-needed template. Oops. I normally take care not to get involved in Proofread-of-the-Month, and as Kastrel observes, {{TOCstyle}} is really at a fairly immature level of development. It was a conscious attempt to start to try to eventually integrate as many of the other wikisource "TOC" template family as possible. To this end it is intended that many more special cases will need to be incorporated as needs arise or are demonstrated. It does not help that the original architect of the concept (not me, though obviously I was involved) is currently incommunicado. AuFCL (talk) 23:19, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semicolon spacing?[edit]

Hello, I am not a regular on Wikisource and was just having a quick look at this because it is collaboration of the month.

I note that in the original text, there is typically a space after the use of a semicolon. In the transcription, the space is being omitted to match contemporary style. Was is the thought on this? I just validated page 88, but it did look like spaces before the semicolon were missing. Is it really missing, or is that just the setting of the type without a space? Hmmm - is indenting preserved? The paragraphs seem to be block in the digital version. I suppose I understand less about this than I thought. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:33, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Standards[edit]

I have been working (to the best of my own knowledge, alone) on this transcription for some time, and I have come to find that it seems as though almost no formatting guidelines have been established. Owing to this, I would like to propose a few general rules that would prevent other editors from continually reverting each other's edits instead of working on the project. Here are my main ideas:

  • Full stops should be bolded after headings (Habits.) — I was unbolding these earlier, but I now think that having them is a good idea and will gradually be reinstating them.
  • Full stops should not be bolded after headings in italics.
  • Species, genus, family and order names should use the {{larger}} template.
  • Species names should not be in bold, but genus names (and higher taxa) should.
  • Keys to subspecies and other tables of contents should use the {{fine block}} template; other names for one species should not.

For now, the only person whom this will affect will be me, but should anyone else come along and help (which I would definitely encourage!), I would suggest that he or she follow these guidelines or suggest changes to them here.
