Gathorne-Hardy, Hon. Alfred Erskine, M.A., Balliol Coll., Oxon, 1870, from Eton, a member of the South-eastern circuit, M.P. Canterbury 1878-80, contested Yorkshire West Riding (Northern Division) 1882, junior counsel to the chief commissioner of works and counsel to the commissioners of woods and forests since 1876, a student of the Inner Temple 18 Nov., 1865 (then aged 20), called to the bar 7 June, 1869 (3rd son of Rt. Hon. Gathorne, Viscount Cranbrook, a master of the bench of the Inner Temple); born 27 Feb., 1845; married 3 Aug. 1875, Isabella Louisa, only dau. of John Malcolm, Esq., of Poltalloch, co. Argyll, N.B. (see Foster's Peerage).
